Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is a not-for-profit health system serving rural Central Appalachia with 13 hospitals, 87 clinics and related services. Facing high poverty, chronic disease, limited insurance coverage and frequent appointment cancellations and no-shows, ARH needed a way to identify patients most at risk of missing care and intervene without large upfront costs.

ARH deployed Qlik AutoML on Qlik Cloud—an easy-to-use, affordable automated machine learning solution with guided onboarding—to predict no-shows by analyzing factors like transportation, distance and weather. Care teams used those predictions to prioritize outreach and reminders; within two months stakeholders saw value, the pilot clinic cut cancellations significantly over three months, and scaling to 15 clinics delivered an estimated $6M in recovered revenue over two years while building internal analytics skills for future expansion.
