Karolinska University Hospital - Customer Case Study

Karolinska University Hospital, one of Scandinavia’s leading healthcare centers based in Stockholm (1,600 beds, ~1.4M patient visits/year, $1.5B budget), struggled to get timely, actionable ICU data. Clinicians could not access or analyze data in the Klinisoft system, static reports and spreadsheet-based SIR (Swedish Intensive Care Register) submissions were slow and resource-intensive, and the hospital lacked the ability to assess patient types, resource use and outcomes for real-time decision making.

Karolinska implemented QlikView for about 20 users across care delivery and financial analysis with a seven-day rollout, using QlikView Server to aggregate data from Klinisoft, planning and medical records. Automated reporting cut monthly SIR preparation from weeks to minutes (a 99% time reduction), provided physicians with flexible ad-hoc analysis, improved resource planning and staffing, and delivered a single dashboard that unified reporting and increased organizational confidence.
