How Data Is Transforming Patient Care in Western Sydney Local Health District

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is one of New South Wales’ largest health networks, serving nearly one million residents across 70+ sites. Faced with vast amounts of clinical and operational data, limited central BI resources, and the need to move beyond basic reporting, WSLHD sought to turn data into actionable insights that improve clinical decision-making, reduce variation in care, and drive better patient outcomes.

WSLHD’s Business Analytics Services implemented Qlik-powered solutions, a hybrid agile development approach, and a sustained training/support program to empower departmental data managers and clinicians to build and use dashboards. The program has grown to about 1,700 end users and 80+ Qlik apps, trained ~30 analysts (22 still in health, 16 building dashboards), enabled cost stratification and earlier clinical follow-up (eg, hepatitis testing), and earned recognition for excellence in healthcare analytics.
