Gazprom Neft Group, one of Russia’s top three oil producers with over 50,000 employees and operations in regions including South America and Africa, needed to scale analytics and embed a data-driven culture across a large, diverse organization. When Alexander Ratanov joined as BI Head in 2013 the BI function was tiny, faced server and resource constraints, and had to overcome change-management challenges despite strong executive support.

The company built a Qlik-based BI platform, grew the team to 100+ specialists, established data governance (including a single dictionary), partnered with universities, and launched internal training and certification that produced 250 champions. The approach delivered standardized, interoperable analytics, executive-to-frontline dashboards, and a lasting cultural shift toward data-driven decision making.
