Andrew Henderson, Senior BI Manager at Nationwide Building Society, led a drive to align data with the mutual’s five strategic cornerstones at the 179‑year‑old institution (founded 1846, 15 million members). Nationwide faced fragmented analytics: teams worked in silos, duplicated effort, and only 500 QlikView licenses meant branch managers often lacked access to the metrics used to judge them—hindering transparency and value extraction.
Henderson’s team established a centre for excellence, a central data library and a Qlik Data Analytics platform (Qlik Sense with separate ad‑hoc and production environments, Qlik NPrinting, GeoAnalytics, QAP/Kinder) plus a weekly delivery review board to prioritise reuse and quality. They rolled out targeted apps—most notably the Retail Branch Network app (giving 1,100 branch staff across 650 branches access) and the Delivery Flow app (covering ~200 projects and ~400 users)—which generated standardized reporting, a complaint QVD, strong user advocacy and quantified savings of about 18,000 hours and £1,000,000 annually.
