Cost Savings at KLM Equipment Services made Possible with QlikView

KLM Equipment Services, a subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines that manages roughly 3,000 motorized vehicles, 3,900 non‑motorized vehicles and 6,100 hoisting units, faced the challenge of reporting on massive volumes of operational data (millions of fuel transactions, kilometers and start/stop events) to meet contractual customer demands. Existing Excel-based processes were slow, error-prone and unmanageable (files >100 MB), with ad hoc queries taking one to two weeks to answer.

KLM implemented QlikView connected to its AS/400 DB2 system and developed three core applications (strategic, tactical and operational) plus custom reports, unlocking data in minutes and delivering the first apps in about a week. The change cut ad hoc response time to about one hour, enabled more reporting with the same staff, improved investment decisions and maintenance cost savings, and increased customer satisfaction through interactive, web‑accessible reports.
