Case Study: Asobanca achieves greater public trust and democratized access to Ecuador’s banking data with Qlik

A Qlik Case Study

Preview of the Asobanca Case Study

Building Confidence in Ecuador’s Banking System Through the Power of Open Data

Asobanca, a nonprofit representing 15 of Ecuador’s largest private banks, set out to rebuild public trust in the country’s financial system after the 1999 crisis. The organization faced fragmented, incompatible, and costly data sources that made transparent analysis difficult for regulators, researchers, businesses, and the public.

Asobanca built DataLab—a free, open-data platform that consolidates information from 24 banks and 74 financial institutions and uses Qlik Sense to calculate 20+ financial indicators and expose 3,000+ variables through 40 dashboards. With partner Prediqt they trained over 10,000 users, cut indicator calculation from hours to seconds, and gave media, academia, and officials timely, downloadable insights; during the COVID lockdown DataLab helped reassure the public about bank liquidity and coincided with deposit levels returning to normal.
