Albany Times Union, a Hearst-owned daily serving New York’s Capital Region with a circulation over 100,000 and multiple print and digital products, needed better visibility into advertising sales performance. The publisher sought to identify revenue growth opportunities across customers, ad types, products and placements and to more effectively manage sales team performance.
Using QlikView delivered via Mactive Analytix, the Times Union rolled out analytics to 35 sales and advertising users to analyze rep performance, ad order details and average ad rates by placement, product and rep, aggregating data from AdBase. The solution enabled drill-down analysis, faster KPI development than Crystal Reports and drove a 6% increase in ad revenue while revealing contract-customer dynamics that supported more informed, timely business decisions.
