AJF creates Press Freedom Tracker to extend its advocacy role in APAC

The Alliance for Journalists’ Freedom (AJF) is a Sydney-based not‑for‑profit that advocates for press freedom and works with governments and partners across the Asia–Pacific to protect journalists and media. As AJF expanded its regional advocacy it needed a clear, accessible way to understand and communicate the press‑freedom landscape—how incidents, laws and court actions were affecting media across different countries—so it could extend support and build constructive relationships in APAC.

Using Qlik Sense with implementation support from Decision Inc., AJF built the interactive Press Freedom Tracker (PFT): a real‑time, map‑based visualization that categorizes and timelines incidents affecting press freedom. The PFT now covers 18 countries in 12 months, has received strong positive feedback for its clarity and detail, underpins AJF’s Asia‑Pacific Dialogue program, and has helped extend the organization’s advocacy reach across the region.
