A QGenda Case Study
Advocate Health, a large nonprofit integrated health system with 69 hospitals across six states, needed a better way to match hospitalist staffing to fluctuating patient demand. Its flat-line staffing model often led to overstaffing in slower periods and expensive last-minute moonlighting when volumes spiked, while also limiting scheduling flexibility and hurting morale. The organization also wanted a more comprehensive scheduling solution than its previous platform, Amion, to improve communication and provider autonomy.
Advocate Health implemented QGenda Advanced Scheduling for Providers to centralize scheduling data, apply rules-based scheduling, and forecast monthly patient volumes using historical schedule and ED registration data. With QGenda, the health system adjusted staffing more precisely to predicted demand, reduced unnecessary moonlighting, and improved flexibility in shift selection. The effort has already driven $118,260 in cost avoidance, equivalent to 0.4 FTE, with further savings expected as forecasting becomes more detailed.
