A Q-CTRL Case Study
The customer RIKEN faced the challenge of simulating open quantum systems, a task requiring deep quantum circuits that rapidly accumulate hardware errors and noise. This noise barrier had previously restricted such simulations to fewer than 12 time steps. They partnered with vendor Q-CTRL to overcome this using its Fire Opal error suppression software.
Q-CTRL implemented a solution involving a hardware-aware circuit redesign and its Fire Opal software to suppress errors. This approach reduced circuit depth by an order of magnitude and enabled RIKEN to successfully scale their simulation to an unprecedented 40 time steps on IBM hardware, significantly surpassing previous benchmarks.
