A Q-CTRL Case Study
Mitsubishi Chemical Group faced a significant challenge in quantum chemistry, as the powerful Quantum Phase Estimation (QPE) algorithm was too resource-intensive and error-prone to be useful on existing quantum hardware. They partnered with Q-CTRL, using its Fire Opal performance management software, to overcome these limitations and enable practical simulations.
Using Q-CTRL's Fire Opal, Mitsubishi Chemical Group implemented a new Quantum Phase Difference Estimation (QPDE) algorithm that dramatically reduced circuit complexity. This solution from Q-CTRL resulted in a 90% reduction in gate overhead and enabled a 5x wider circuit, setting a new world record for the largest QPE demonstration and providing a path to large-scale quantum chemistry simulations on near-term hardware.
