How Baptist Hospital Drastically Reduced Infection Prevention Rates, Saving More Than $1.2 Million

Baptist Health Care’s Baptist Hospital, a 492-bed acute care facility in Pensacola, Florida, struggled to balance infection prevention work with the heavy burden of daily HAI data abstraction. Because its infection prevention team was tied up reviewing and reporting cultures, the hospital had less time to proactively reduce CLABSI, CAUTI, and other hospital-acquired infections, and it was exposed to CMS penalties.

To address this, Baptist Hospital partnered with Q-Centrix and used its infection prevention solution and Q-Apps® platform, supported by experienced infection preventionists, to take over culture abstraction and reporting. The result was 20+ hours saved per month for the internal team, a 45% reduction in CAUTI incidents, a 73% reduction in CLABSI incidents, elimination of the CMS HAI penalty in 2017, and an estimated $1,206,914 in savings for Baptist Health Care.
