Preview of the US Optical Retailer Case Study

US Optical Retailer saves $200,000+ and cuts wait times 99% with Pythian

The US optical retailer faced challenges with its legacy Oracle RAC environment, including high licensing costs, lack of infrastructure agility, and prohibitive expenses for global expansion. To modernize its eCommerce operations and reduce dependency on proprietary software, the retailer partnered with vendor Pythian for a migration to Google Cloud.

Pythian executed an end-to-end migration strategy, first stabilizing the Oracle environment and then moving it to Google Cloud Bare Metal Solution and subsequently to Google Compute Engine virtual machines. This was followed by a migration path to PostgreSQL. The solution resulted in over $200,000 in annual Oracle licensing savings, reduced provisioning times from months to minutes, and gave the retailer an AI-ready, scalable foundation for global growth into new markets.
