Pythian Helps Fox Sports Eliminate Timesensitive Delays
Fox Sports, known for its Fantasy Football and related games, faced a major performance challenge on game day, with traffic reaching more than 40,000 requests per second. In the Fantasy Football Player Page, loading and comparing player statistics could take over a minute, creating a poor user experience and threatening engagement and advertising revenue. Pythian was brought in to review the application, Oracle Database Server, and Oracle PL/SQL environment.
Pythian recommended shifting key processing from the web client into the Oracle database server and worked with Fox Sports developers to simplify the Java UI and PL/SQL code. The result was a dramatic improvement: Player Page response times dropped from over 1 minute to under 1 second, and sorting and other business logic were consolidated into a single SQL call. Pythian’s changes greatly improved the customer experience and eliminated the time-sensitive delays.
