The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) needed a better way to analyze recorded cricket match footage than its manual process allowed, with more consistency and the ability to scale analysis beyond what people could do by hand. ECB turned to Pythian to explore how AI could help and to assess the data and opportunities for automating video labeling and match analysis.
Pythian used Google Cloud Platform, along with its AI Opportunity Assessment framework and deep learning expertise, to test sample footage and build an AI roadmap for ECB. By evaluating recorded matches and historical event labels, Pythian helped ECB understand the feasibility, risks, and value of ML approaches such as Google Vision API and TensorFlow, giving ECB confidence to invest in AI on GCP and a clear path for next steps.
