Case Study: England and Wales Cricket Board achieves greater fan engagement with Pythian

A Pythian Case Study

Preview of the England and Wales Cricket Board Case Study

Leading UK Sports Organization Ups its Data Game to Boost Fan Engagement

The England and Wales Cricket Board needed a better way to use data and analytics to grow cricket, improve performance, and engage more fans and participants. Like many sports organizations, the ECB had multiple systems for statistics, communications, video analysis, and sports science, but the data lived in silos and was hard to turn into actionable insight. Pythian was brought in to architect and design a cloud-based data platform using technologies including Cloudera Hadoop and Google Cloud.

Pythian integrated 19+ data sources into a secure cloud data lake and put in place strong data governance to make the information usable across the organization. As a result, the ECB removed traditional data and BI bottlenecks, became a more evidence-based organization, and transformed how it selects and prepares cricketers. Pythian’s solution also helped the ECB reach thousands more fans and participants, while contributing to increased ticket sales, better venue decisions, improved coach and youth engagement, and more effective investment in local facilities.
