World Walking reaches 50,500 active members with Pusher

World Walking, a charity and app that enables virtual group walking, needed to provide a live community chat feature to keep its growing user base engaged and connected, particularly as demand surged during social distancing. To build this real-time functionality, they worked with Pusher and utilized its Channels product.

Pusher provided a real-time, socket-based solution that integrated seamlessly with World Walking's existing PHP and Laravel backend, replacing a less efficient polling system. This implementation allowed walking groups to chat and collaborate in real time. As a result, World Walking's active user base grew to over 50,500 members, who together have logged more than 27.3 billion steps.

World Walking
