Case Study: Shakey achieves realtime, massively multiplayer audience engagement and a Culture Hack Scotland win with Pusher

A Pusher Case Study

Preview of the Shakey Case Study

Realtime, Mobile, Browser and User & Audience Engagement

Shakey is a realtime, massively multiplayer Shakespearean parlour game that needed to turn a web browser into a live stage and engage a roomful of participants on both desktop and mobile. To enable instant role assignment, live audience feedback (flowers/tomatoes) and synchronized gameplay, the Shakey team used Pusher’s realtime web technology alongside a Macbeth dataset, Ruby on Rails and JavaScript.

Pusher powered the realtime updates that let the projected browser stage and mobile apps stay in sync, supported first-come-first-served role assignment and live audience interactions, and helped make the experience highly engaging and innovative. The approach earned Shakey the “most fun” award and the overall win at Culture Hack Scotland, and Pusher also awarded the team six months’ free Startup plan access to continue development.
