St George’s Heathcare Trust, one of the UK’s largest hospital trusts, faced an NHS Digital mandate to provide a fully functional, secure and resilient WiFi service for patients, staff and visitors by the end of 2018. To meet the tight timeframe and integrate with existing Cisco infrastructure, the Trust worked with Softcat and selected a cloud-based guest WiFi platform from Purple, using branded splash screens, secure authentication and strict content filtering to satisfy NHS Digital requirements.

Purple’s cloud solution was deployed as a software overlay, delivering fast implementation, enterprise-class reporting, and NHS-branded communications while remaining under budget and on schedule. The service has supported 457,330 visits and 203,419 users (Dec 2018–Jun 2019), improved patient and visitor connectivity and experience, and enabled future plans for targeted health messaging, streamlined feedback collection and richer clinical/communications services.
