Kingsgate Shopping Mall engaged Purple to solve two challenges: provide shoppers with fast, free and secure WiFi while also using social networking to increase footfall and promote real‑time offers without large marketing spend. Purple’s social WiFi service (Purple WiFi) was chosen to meet customer expectations for connectivity and to capture promotional value from visitors.
Purple rolled out Purple WiFi across the centre, implementing targeted login pages and a secure customer portal that records WiFi usage, demographics and the number of new Facebook fans and Twitter followers. By requiring social logins (like/tweet) and enabling targeted offers, Purple gave Kingsgate measurable social exposure and behavioural analytics to drive promotions and attract new footfall — benefiting both shoppers and retailers.
