Case Study: Inverness City Centre achieves free public WiFi and actionable visitor analytics with Purple

A Purple Case Study

Preview of the Inverness City Centre Case Study

Free city centre WiFi is a big hit for Inverness and the Highland Council

Inverness City Centre needed free, secure public WiFi and better visibility of who visits the city so the Highland Council could communicate with visitors, plan events and increase dwell time and spending. To meet this challenge they ran a pilot using Purple’s WiFi and analytics platform (installed with Ruckus hardware by Rapier Systems) to offer fast public connectivity while capturing visitor data via a simple portal.

Purple’s solution went live in December 2016 across key streets and delivered almost 17,000 users in six months, with the majority using the network for over an hour and 57% opting to log in via a short form. Using Purple’s analytics and presence reports the council can now see visitor origins (top: Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow), track dwell time and repeat visits, boost engagement (increased Highland Council Facebook likes) and has approved a Phase 2 rollout with plans to expand the model across the Highlands.
