Avanti West Coast needed better ways to understand passengers, grow its customer database, and drive repeat bookings, especially as most customers booked through online travel agents rather than directly. The rail operator also wanted more accurate insight into traveller behavior and a clearer way to measure the impact of onboard upgrades and upsell initiatives. Purple helped Avanti West Coast address these challenges with its Guest WiFi, captive portal, and customer survey tools.

Purple implemented its WiFi solution across 78 trains and 23 stations, combining free guest WiFi with data analytics and Micro-Surveys to collect passenger insights and enable targeted follow-up marketing. The results were strong: Avanti West Coast recorded 2,249,803 unique visitors, 10,454,300 WiFi logins, 791,838 completed surveys, 21,476 repeat visits, and 3,744 upsell purchases, delivering a 463% return on investment.
