A Pure Storage Case Study
Woolpert, an architectural, engineering and geospatial firm with a distributed workforce, needed a high-performance virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to give engineers and designers fast, reliable access to large CAD and Revit files. Their small IT team’s “homegrown” VDI struggled with slow connections, complex management and limited expertise, which hurt end-user productivity and made it difficult to extend VDI to branch offices and remote workers.
Working with partner Logicalis, Woolpert deployed a FlashStack converged infrastructure (Pure Storage FlashArray, Cisco UCS/Nexus, and VMware) to deliver sub-millisecond latency, simplified provisioning and validated, easy deployment. The result was immediate performance and management gains—VDI users access files and apps without delay, IT saves roughly five man-hours per week on storage tasks, data reduction reached about 12:1, and the firm is expanding VDI to back-office and remote teams while reducing capital and operating costs.
