A Pure Storage Case Study
Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS), a 269‑bed hospital and affiliated multi‑specialty clinics in Monterey County, was running aging, end‑of‑life SANs that caused sluggish performance for practice‑management applications and threatened a disruptive forklift upgrade—all while completing a long MEDITECH EHR upgrade that limited their ability to change infrastructure. The hospital needed a fast, low‑risk storage solution that improved application responsiveness without a lengthy evaluation or repeated migrations.
SVMHS replaced two vendor SANs with a single Pure Storage FlashArray//M70, deployed as a FlashStack with Cisco UCS and VMware and integrated with Commvault via CloudWave. The all‑flash array delivered much faster reports and application performance (practice management, SharePoint, SQL/MEDITECH reporting), simplified storage management and consolidation for IT, and lowered five‑year total cost of ownership through Pure’s Evergreen program and built‑in features like encryption at rest.
