A Pure Storage Case Study
Red Hawk Casino, a large gaming resort, needed consistently fast response times for guest-facing systems (Players’ Club, kiosks, slot crediting) and wanted to remove storage as a recurring IT problem. Its legacy HDD array was producing 15–50 ms latency and was capped at ~20,000 IOPS, while an upcoming VDI rollout increased performance and capacity demands.
Red Hawk deployed a Pure Storage FlashArray (beta to full production) and moved virtual servers and desktops to flash. The result: average latency dropped to sub-milliseconds with 150–160k IOPS capacity, 20:1 data reduction for desktops (10:1 for servers), ~4x faster SQL report queries (from >2 minutes to ~30 seconds), 10:1 reduction in rack space and ~87% lower storage electricity use, plus 30–40% storage CAPEX avoidance for dev/test and deferred data center expansion.
