Pure Storage Fills Prescription for High Performance and 8:1 Data Reduction

Medical Center Health System (MCHS), the largest healthcare provider in the Permian Basin based in Odessa, Texas, needed to boost storage performance and add offsite capacity for disaster recovery as it migrated more than 250 virtual desktops and 450 XenApp users to Citrix. Their legacy disk-based SAN couldn’t keep up with growing VDI demands and hybrid alternatives were too costly.

MCHS deployed a Pure Storage FlashArray FA-420 in a proof of concept and immediately saw simpler management and much faster performance—system boot times fell from 54 to 9 seconds—allowing clinicians to spend less time waiting and more time with patients. The all‑flash solution also delivered 8:1 data reduction, enabling far greater effective capacity and reduced capital requirements.
