Legacy Health Deploys Pure Storage for Epic EHR System

Legacy Health, a Portland-area health system with three major hospitals, four community hospitals and more than 70 clinics, runs Epic as its integrated EHR and hosts other providers through Epic’s Community Connect program. Rapid growth strained its spinning-disk storage, causing slow responses that pushed its Epic “exception rate” above the 1.3% threshold needed for Honor Roll designation and prompted clinician complaints and heavy IT management burden.

Legacy deployed Pure Storage all‑flash arrays (FlashArray//M20 and //M50), passing Epic performance tests in a two‑hour proof of concept and going live on Pure arrays seven weeks after purchase. The move cut the exception rate from ~1.5% to ~0.5%, slashed read latencies from over 7 ms to about 0.28 ms, sped clinician workflows, simplified storage management, and restored eligibility for Epic Honor Roll savings.
