A Pure Storage Case Study
The Kremsmüller Group, a long-established Austrian industrial plant constructor, found its legacy hard-disk storage — supporting VMware, Microsoft SQL Server and Citrix environments — unable to meet growing demands for low latency, scalability and 24/7 reliability. With three separate storage systems showing limits in performance and manageability, the small IT team needed a highly available, easy-to-manage and sustainable solution that would stop frequent reinvestment cycles and support Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Kremsmüller implemented Pure Storage all‑flash arrays with the Evergreen model; the proof-of-concept was ready in under 90 minutes and staff training took 15 minutes. Results included latency falling from 7–10 ms to under 1 ms, automated backups and snapshots via CommVault, VMware datastore creation cut from ~30 minutes to ~2 minutes, virtual desktops booting faster than local SSDs, and data reduction that reduced required space by 75%. The new platform enabled CAD virtualization, smoother VDI expansion and a more predictable, sustainable total cost of ownership.
