GVB finds the Right Policy with Pure Storage

Gebäudeversicherung Bern (GVB) is a Swiss building insurer serving the canton of Bern with over 200 internal clerks and 160 external assessors who access applications via a VMware Horizon VDI. Their legacy spinning-disk storage caused high latencies (10–20 ms), slow backups and image replication, and time-consuming storage management, impairing responsiveness and operational efficiency.

GVB replaced the old system with a Pure Storage FlashArray//M50, installed quickly by their SI partner. The array delivers consistently low latency (below 0.5 ms), about 7:1 data compression, golden-image replication cut from ~15 minutes to ~1 minute, backups reduced from up to five hours to around one hour (now possible during business hours), and SAP cloning shortened from 1h10m to 4 minutes. Management effort is now minimal, the system has run reliably since deployment, and GVB plans to migrate all workloads to the expanded Pure Storage array.
