A Pure Storage Case Study
The Mississippi Department of Revenue, which collects and distributes more than $7.8 billion annually, faced frequent downtime and poor storage performance that hurt citizen-facing websites and staff productivity. With new, highly transactional systems (MARS and MARVIN) on the horizon, the agency needed a more reliable, higher‑performance platform to support SQL Server databases and improve availability.
The DOR deployed a FlashStack converged infrastructure — Pure Storage FlashArray, Cisco UCS servers and Nexus switches, VMware virtualization, and Zerto for replication — to consolidate and accelerate its environment. The result: dramatic SQL performance gains (up to 20x / 150%+ improvement in transactions, peaking at ~260,000 IOPS), data‑reduction of 3:1 on encrypted databases and 9:1 on normal workloads, faster provisioning, reduced management overhead, and business‑continuity with RPOs in seconds and RTOs in minutes.
