A Pure Storage Case Study
The Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB), which provides centralized IT services for 15 public community colleges and more than 70,000 students, faced a critical infrastructure challenge: an early converged-storage system that was complex to manage, delivered poor performance during peak registration periods, and had maintenance costs set to more than double (from $48,000 to $110,000). These issues strained IT staff and threatened student access to the online enrollment application when demand was highest.
MCCB replaced the legacy stack with a FlashStack converged solution (Pure Storage FlashArray, Cisco UCS and Nexus switches, and VMware), installed rapidly with no production downtime. The new platform delivered faster enrollment performance, simplified management, improved disaster-recovery testing, a 3.8:1 data-reduction rate, reduced footprint and lower TCO—freeing IT to roll out features faster and focus on improving the learning environment.
