Distribution Management Automates Storage Management Tasks

Distribution Management is a North American distributor of more than 10,000 print and imaging products that has expanded into omni-channel fulfillment (DM Fulfillment). IT is core to its business, but legacy storage made developer workflows slow and error-prone: cloning two large SQL Server databases (~4 TB total) was complex and time-consuming, and virtual desktop performance was causing productivity issues.

After a proof-of-concept, the company deployed a Pure Storage FlashArray//M20r2 and automated storage tasks with Pure’s PowerShell SDK. The change enabled virtually unlimited, scheduled database clones, delivered about 4.3:1 data reduction (replacing 70 TB of old storage with 40 TB raw and using only 46% of capacity), and improved performance—SQL Agent jobs from 46 to 27 minutes, routine maintenance from 9.5 to 4 hours, and 100 VDI provisioned in 14 minutes—while saving IT 4–6 hours a week and accelerating time-to-market for new services.
