Despegar.com Adopts OpenStack with Pure Storage

Despegar.com, Latin America’s leading online travel agency with about 60% market share, was struggling to keep pace with customer expectations because its aging IT infrastructure slowed application rollout. As the development team grew from about 100 to 600 people, provisioning bottlenecks and rising storage latency limited releases to just three–five updates per week, hurting time-to-market and site responsiveness.

To solve this, Despegar built a private OpenStack cloud and deployed four Pure Storage FlashArray//m20 systems with native Cinder integration, enabling on-demand, self-service provisioning for developers. The result: developers now produce and deploy more than 400 applications/updates daily (versus 3–5 weekly before), latencies fell from ~50 ms to <1 ms, some Oracle queries dropped from ~10 minutes to under a minute, storage footprint was reduced ~45%, and the company gained much faster time-to-market, better site performance and 24/7 availability.
