A Pure Storage Case Study
Credit Acceptance Corp., a North American auto‑finance company that promises credit decisions within 30 seconds via its CAPS platform, needed faster, more reliable access to huge data stores to keep that promise. Its 160‑person IT team was battling daily “bootstorms” as ~700 VMs came online (causing 45‑second to 5‑minute logins), an analytics environment that took 24 hours to complete ETLs and regressions, and an unexpectedly swollen Exchange database that ballooned to 12 TB.
After a side‑by‑side trial, CAC standardized on Pure Storage flash arrays. Login latencies were eliminated, SAS analytics ETL and regression windows shrank from 24 to 6 hours, the 12 TB email store compressed to about 1.2 TB (≈5:1), and storage electricity costs fell from ~$160,000 to ~$1,600 (≈99%). Administrative overhead and risky maintenance events dropped dramatically, and proactive support and Evergreen upgrades let IT focus on business outcomes rather than hardware.
