Chapman University Gives Legacy Storage a Permanent Sabbatical in Favor of Pure Storage

Chapman University, a private institution with more than 8,300 students and 900 faculty, relied on legacy storage to support PeopleSoft/Oracle and a SQL Server data warehouse across two campus data centers and an offsite DR site. Routine storage management consumed dozens of hours weekly, nightly data pulls and database cloning were slow (8–12 hours), and limited performance constrained plans to virtualize production servers.

The all‑flash array delivered immediate sub‑millisecond latencies, sped nightly warehouse loads, enabled virtualization and automation (snapshots and replication), cut cloning time by at least half, achieved a 5.2:1 data‑reduction ratio (62% capacity after two years), and dramatically simplified management with rapid support and Evergreen upgrades.
