A Pure Storage Case Study
Betfair, a leading online wagering site with more than 1 million members across multiple countries, processes over 100 million transactions a day and can peak around 3,000 transactions per second. Its Exchange platform demands ultra-low, consistent latency and 24/7 availability, but Betfair’s legacy 15K SAS storage produced inconsistent latencies and occasional 3–4 second transaction delays—unacceptable for time‑sensitive features like live cash‑outs—and required heavy operational tuning.
After a four‑month proof of concept Betfair implemented Pure Storage FlashArray all‑flash systems, which delivered consistent sub‑millisecond latency, simplified management (fast snapshots/clones and replication) and ultra‑high reliability. The arrays handled peak events—more than 10 million bets and ~2,500 TPS at the Grand National—with only a small blip, enabled a full platform refresh, scaled to nearly a dozen arrays, and removed bottleneck concerns while supporting 10–15% annual growth.
