Skyguide, Switzerland’s air navigation service provider (1,500 employees, guiding 1.2 million flights a year across complex European airspace), needed to cut IT maintenance costs and improve efficiency and reliability for its air-traffic management and intensive around‑the‑clock training simulations. Its prior in‑house tools were expensive to maintain, couldn’t be reused across environments, and any simulator downtime risked delaying controller certification and reducing ATC capacity.

Skyguide implemented Puppet Enterprise to build an automated continuous delivery pipeline across training/simulation, test and production, letting platform operators configure working positions, assign software versions and scenarios via a GUI, and manage up to 600 hosts with frequent 50‑minute session changes. The unified solution lowered maintenance costs, reduced configuration failures, improved training stability, and streamlined deployments between operations and training.
