Atlassian’s Bitbucket Cloud team wanted to improve developer productivity and make cloud infrastructure easier for developers to use. Their legacy infrastructure-as-code approach relied on a DSL that was hard to read, time-consuming to maintain, and limited their ability to support cross-region deployments and self-service workflows for more than 100 developers.

Pulumi replaced that complexity with infrastructure code in Python and its Automation API, letting Atlassian build a self-service dashboard and automate cloud environment provisioning across regions. With Pulumi, Bitbucket cut maintenance time by 50%—from about 8 hours per week to fewer than 4—while reducing infrastructure code size and complexity, speeding up deployments, and lowering developer support questions.
