Borgess Health Offers Remote Network Access to Doctors While Keeping Patient Records Secure

Borgess Health Alliance, a subsidiary of Ascension Health serving more than 1 million people across southwest Michigan, needed a secure way for physicians to view electronic medical records remotely. The organization faced outdated connectivity (dial-up and a limited VPN), costly T1 lines to physicians’ homes, and strict requirements to protect patient privacy while enforcing role-based access.

Working with reseller NetWorks Group, Borgess implemented the Pulse Secure SSL VPN to provide seamless, secure remote access with no per-home client installs and granular, role-based controls. The solution cut IT costs, extended remote access to about 1,200 employees (including 50 who work fully remotely), improved physicians’ work‑life balance, and maintained the confidentiality of patient records.
