A Pulse Case Study
Midwest Orthopaedic Center (MOC), a large Peoria, IL orthopaedic group with 13 board‑certified physicians and about 124,000 patient encounters annually, needed greater transparency and accountability in its revenue cycle and wanted an integrated EHR to meet Meaningful Use requirements. MOC was losing claims, experiencing slow collections and long AR days, and sought a practice management/EHR plus outsourced billing solution to reduce denials, speed payments and improve clinical documentation.
MOC selected Pulse’s integrated suite—PulsePro Practice Management, Pulse Complete EHR and Pulse Revenue Cycle Management Services—implemented in 2011 with e‑learning and onsite support. Results included stabilizing cash flow in one-third the expected time, a 11.7% increase in net charges and a 19.7% increase in gross collection rate, a 41.7% drop in days in AR (72 to 42), a 98% first‑pass claims acceptance rate, a 10% improvement in point‑of‑service co‑pay collection, all 13 physicians attesting to Meaningful Use Stage 1 (earning $234,000), and a 5% reduction in malpractice premiums from improved documentation.
