Good Shepherd Medical Center - Customer Case Study

Good Shepherd Medical Center, a 426-bed primary stroke center serving a large rural area northeast of Texas with transfers up to 60 miles, struggled with inconsistent team coordination and long door-to-needle times (averaging 70–110 minutes in 2012). To address this, the hospital adopted Pulsara’s mobile communication platform to synchronize clocks, share patient data, and alert the full stroke team from any device.

Using Pulsara to send real-time alerts, benchmark times, and pre-registration info—without changing existing protocols—Good Shepherd dramatically reduced treatment times: in 2014, 93% of stroke cases were under 60 minutes (52% under 45), and from Jan–Jun 2015, 92% were under 60 minutes and 75% under 45, with a record 22-minute door-to-needle time in May. Pulsara also improved EMS–hospital feedback and teamwork and helped Good Shepherd earn a Target Stroke Elite Plus award, leading to better patient outcomes.
