How Shelter Uses Pulsar to Plan Content, Campaigns and Community Outreach

Shelter, a UK homelessness charity, faced the challenge of managing its digital presence to support multiple goals: driving donations through its charity shops, informing its advocacy campaigns, and providing real-time support to those in need. To address this, they turned to the vendor Pulsar and utilized its TRAC and TRENDS analytics tools to better understand online conversations and strategically plan their content and outreach.

Using Pulsar, Shelter successfully refined its content strategy for its charity shops, aligning it with the aesthetic of existing online conversations to increase engagement. The platform also provided critical data for shaping political advocacy campaigns and, during the COVID-19 crisis, identified a surge in public concern that allowed Shelter to coordinate with other organizations to provide essential information. This data-driven approach helped Shelter manage a massive increase in demand, receiving 34,000 messages in just eight weeks during the pandemic.
