Sprinkl Connects Irrigation Network, Controller With PubNub

Sprinkl is a user-friendly sprinkler controller that uses wireless sensors to measure soil moisture and temperature and adjusts watering based on those readings and weather forecasts. With a touch-screen controller, smartphone app, Wi‑Fi, and a REST API, Sprinkl needed a realtime infrastructure to keep the Sprinkl Cloud and mobile apps tightly synced with users’ controllers. An initial Socket.IO approach ran into specification bugs and incompatibilities, and the small development team wanted a faster, simpler path.

Sprinkl adopted the PubNub Data Stream Network to handle realtime events between controllers, the cloud, and mobile apps. The integration was implemented quickly and reliably, delivering a rock-solid realtime layer that eliminated protocol headaches, significantly reduced development time and complexity, and kept devices and apps consistently up to date.
