MashMeTV Build Fully-featured Collaboration Tool With PubNub

MashMeTV is a browser-based video chat collaboration tool that lets up to 10 participants interact in real time while watching video, editing documents, presenting slides, painting a shared whiteboard, browsing the web and syncing apps like Google Docs or YouTube. Early in beta the team faced three major challenges: achieving very low latency for seamless real-time interactions, having reliable, responsive vendor support, and using a highly scalable, low‑maintenance solution so they could focus on product development.

MashMeTV replaced custom websockets and an underperforming provider with the PubNub Real-Time Network, integrating the JavaScript SDK and using PubNub’s Channel Multiplexing to cut bandwidth and latency. Integration took under two days with fast vendor support; latency dropped to about 170 ms (roughly half the previous delay), development costs fell, and the team no longer needs to maintain scalable websocket infrastructure.
