Leo Burnett and the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia ran "Be a Hero," an interactive mobile-to-billboard campaign in Kuala Lumpur that let passersby use iOS/Android devices to release virtual turtle hatchlings and earn personalized shout-outs on a large digital billboard. The key challenge was orchestrating a seamless, real-time transition from the participant’s device to the billboard—any latency could make people miss the fast-moving hatchling footage and the campaign’s donation message.

PubNub Data Streams provided a low-latency, bidirectional communication layer to broadcast queue info, trigger the billboard end-sequence the instant a crawl finished, display contextual wait messages, and push personalized shout-outs via social login, while also supplying live analytics and remote-control capabilities for administrators. The result was reliable, synchronous interactions, accurate queue management, real-time campaign metrics, and consistent delivery of each participant’s "hero moment" for an award-winning conservation drive.
