CBS Outdoor Syncs Web and Roadside Billboard Content Using PubNub

CBS Outdoor operates the Silicon View digital billboard on Highway 101 between San Jose and San Francisco—a landmark seen by about 1.3 million viewers weekly. They wanted to extend the billboard experience online by syncing the live LED display with a web-based "Live Content Display" so remote audiences would see the same dynamic content in real time.

CBS built a custom player to send five-color rotating images to the billboard and used the PubNub Real-time Network to push the currently displayed image to a Cloudinary URL, which feeds the online display. The result: web and roadside content are tightly synchronized—online users see exactly what’s on the billboard as it appears, improving cross-channel advertising coordination and viewer engagement.
