How Revere, MA Increased Public Trust and Community Engagement

The City of Revere, MA, faced the challenge of undertaking its reprecincting process, a complex and often mistrusted civic procedure required after the 2020 census. With public trust in redistricting being low nationally, the city needed a transparent and inclusive strategy to engage its diverse, growing population and educate them on the importance of the redrawing of precinct and ward boundaries. To achieve this, they partnered with PublicInput and utilized its community engagement platform.

PublicInput provided a unified solution that went beyond simple surveys. The vendor's software enabled the city to create interactive maps for education and dialogue, establish a central portal for FAQs and timelines, and employ public comment analysis to understand and respond to resident input. This transparent approach fostered representative community involvement. The solution was a success, resulting in the new maps being adopted by a unanimous city council vote in November 2021, thereby increasing public trust through a more inclusive process.
