Taichung optimizes traffic flow and reduces travel times

Taichung Transportation Bureau, responsible for managing traffic in rapidly growing Taichung City, faced severe congestion in the Daya Region near Freeway 1 and Expressway 74. Peak-hour bottlenecks, spillback onto urban roads, and travel delays of up to 45 minutes made it difficult to keep traffic moving efficiently, despite earlier road-widening measures.

PTV Group implemented PTV Optima and PTV Balance as part of an intelligent transportation system to enable real-time traffic prediction, event management, alternative route guidance, and adaptive signal control. The solution helped Taichung Transportation Bureau reduce travel time on key routes by 10%, cut area-wide average travel time by 9.4%, increase average traffic speed by 8.4%, and improve throughput by 7.6%.
