Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) worked with PTV Group and its PTV Visum software to support medium- and long-term service planning for Switzerland’s rail network. As the backbone of the country’s public transport system, SBB needed a way to plan for growing demand, optimize capacity, and make better decisions about timetables, routes, and fleet investments.

PTV Group implemented PTV Visum within SBB’s SIMBA planning environment to model the nationwide network, analyze demand, visualize timetables, and evaluate future scenarios for rail service and fleet procurement. The solution helped SBB plan economically, compare projects, set customer-friendly service intervals, and initiate demand-boosting measures, while supporting a network that serves over 1.3 million passengers and 200,000 tons of goods daily across more than 3,200 kilometers of track.
